Researchers at the University of Georgia Regenerative Bioscience Center helped design fracture putty, a gel-like substance fortified with mesenchymal stem cells that produce a bone-growth promoting protein that has been shown to cut fracture repair time from weeks to days in animal studies. The gel will likely be used in animals and people, and the Department of Defense, which funded the research, is interested in using it for soldiers in the field.
